Motorist in Chattooga County remain frustrated at the fuel pump. Supplies of gasoline have increased since Monday, however many stations that have received supplies of petroleum have seen their short supply dwindle quickly.
Governor Perdue sent a letter to President Bush requesting that more crude oil be released from the strategic oil reserve to help ease the problems in the South with gasoline. Many political analysist see that move as political cover as the governor is being criticized for jetting overseas on a trade mission during the fuel and economic crisis. Industry insiders say in a more practical and realistic move the governor has issued an executive order that allows companies without a license to deliver fuel in Georgia to bring much needed fuel supplies into the state.
The state’s main artery for gas, operated by Colonial Pipeline, is back to pre-hurricane levels, but it takes days for the gas to cover the distance from the coast to communities inland, spokesman Steve Baker said.
