This festival offers things you just cannot do every day. Rides in a tethered balloon, carnival rides, live entertain-ment, craft and food vendors will shake you out of your rut!
Try the fried Coke or have some shrimp and grits for a change.
Enjoy the big balloons as they launch on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and see several of them glow.
To glow the balloon inflates while staying on the ground. This is done at dusk, and the light from the burners will cause the colors on the balloon to glow.
The balloons will be back Saturday morning at 6 a.m. and again at 6 p.m., weather permitting. Saturday evening will also feature a glow at dusk. Sunday morning at 6 a.m. is your last chance to see the balloons fly for another year.
The tethered balloon will be on hand to offer rides that provide a bird’s eye view of the festival. Rides are $10 for adults and $5 for children. There will also be a walk in balloon inflated with cold air that allows you see the size and construction of the balloon from the inside.
Your musical entertainment Friday evening will feature rock with local groups Heart Cake Party and Tir Alseen per-forming at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday evening will turn to country with The Lacs doing their country/rap hit “Kickin Up Mud” at 6 p.m. If you like mud bogs, you will identify with their song. They are just country boys from south Georgia having fun making music. Plan to come check them out.
The vendors offer handcrafted jewelry, cedar furniture, air brushed posters and tags, wood carving, original hand sewn items and metal crafted works of art.
The food vendors will tempt you with Greek food, a Cajun menu, as well as bar-b-que, burgers and hot dogs. You will be tempted at every turn.
This year parking is free. There is an admission charge of $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 12 and those under 5 will be admitted free. Proceeds from the festival go to the Menlo Volunteer Fire Department, Best Silver Club Scholarship Fund, the Menlo Recreation Department and the City of Menlo.
The Family Attractions carnival is back. They will be selling the unlimited rides arm bands as well as single ride tick-ets. They pride themselves on their safety record. They are state inspected and strive to provide you with clean family fun and a screaming good time.
County land owners are reminded if a balloon lands on your property, our pilots will give you a card to fill out. which will be turned in to festival management. On Sunday evening festival management will conduct a random drawing from all cards received, with one lucky land owner winning $200.
Experience something different. Come to Menlo for the Northwest Georgia Balloon Festival May 13, 14 and 15. It is will not be your "usual" weekend.
