Earlier this week it became official that the Movie Gallery in Summerville would be closing it’s doors for good. The closure had been rumored for several weeks. Earlier this week signs could be seen popping up around Summerville announcing the closing and inventory liquidation.
The Movie Gallery is in the process of liquidating all of its inventory and shutting down all of its stores in the Coosa Valley area of northwest Georgia. Movie Gallery has stores in Rome, Adairsville, Cedartown, Calhoun and Summerville. The company is based in Wilsonville, Ore.
The company, which was second only to Blockbuster in the movie rental business, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in February and announced in May that it was shutting down hundreds of locations across the U.S.
The company said it is closing stores because they have not been profitable and the influx of cash from the liquidation is expected to assist the company in moving forward and eventually re-emerging out of bankruptcy.
