The Movie Gallery, which has five stores in the mid-Coosa Valley area including one in Floyd County, is in the process of liquidating all of its inventory and shutting down all of its stores in the Coosa Valley area of northwest Georgia. Movie Gallery has stores in Rome, Adairsville, Cedartown, Calhoun and Summerville. The company is based in Wilsonville, Ore.

The company, which was second only to Blockbuster in the movie rental business, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in February and announced in May that it was shutting down hundreds of locations across the U.S.

The company said it is closing stores because they have not been profitable and the influx of cash from the liquidation is expected to assist the company in moving forward and eventually re-emerging out of bankruptcy.
