Mrs. Ellia Mae Staples, age 85, of Trion, GA died Thursday, December 22, 2011
at her residence.
Mrs. Staples was born February 26, 1926 in Marion County, AL, the daughter
of the late William Thomas and Mary Delphia Howell Pope. She was a member
of New Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Staples was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills
and Trion City Schools. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Thomas Leon Staples; a grandson, James Robert Rapier; brothers,
Otis Pope, Loy Lee Pope, Eldon Pope, Odell Pope and Floyd Pope; sisters, Autie
Martin, Bunia Howell Hamby, and Lois Sanderson.
Survivors include her children, Thomas Larry Staples, McDonough, GA, Rebecca
Mae Saye, Rome, GA, and Kathy Lynn Rapier, Trion, GA; sister, Ruby Henderson,
Trion, GA; brother, J R Pope, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Tarrence Ledon Staples,
Patrick Anthony Staples, Jason Dale Purcell, Shannon Leah Purcell, Jennifer
Michelle Franklin, and Thomas Benjamin Rapier; great-grandchildren, Thomas
Robert Staples, Kaleyanne Staples, Elizabeth Rayne Staples, William Thomas
Staples, Stormi Cheyenne Franklin, Waylon James Franklin, and Kristopher
Roy Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at
Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Patterson and Rev. Jason
Cowart officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers
will be Andy Howell, Paul Howell, Roger Owens, Preston Cash, Ronnie Pope,
Darrell Pledger, and Wayne Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Boyce and
Mary Keith, Louis and Myrtle McWhorter, Mildred Adams, Montine Anderson,
Young at Heart of New Bethel Baptist Church, and all Neighbors of Mt. View.
Mrs. Staples will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m Monday, December 26, 2011.
