Yesterday’s official rainfall total at the airport in Rome was 1.85 inches which broke a record from 1955. While the rainfall was welcomed, climateologist say that September and October are the driest months in Northwest Georgia and at this time we are over 11 inches behind in yearly rainfall. Some residents in Chattooga County reported over 2 inches of rain yesterday.
For the year to date, the area has had almost 35 inches, well short of the yearly average of just more than 46 inches at this time of year.
The average rainfall for October is 3.12 inches, so Wednesday’s soaking got us more than halfway there.
