State Sen. Jeff Mullis of Chickamauga easily fended off two challengers in Tuesday’s election primaries.

The District 53 lawmaker won 5,722 votes, while competitors Jeremy Jones of Trenton received 1,336 and Jim Pope of Villanow received 1,312.

Senate District 53 includes all of Walker, Dade, and Chattooga counties and most of Catoosa County.

Since there are no Democratic challengers, Mullis will have no opposition in the general election on Nov. 9.

Voter turn-out in Tuesday’s elections were low across the 53rd District.
