The city of LaFayette is anxiously awaiting a response from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division as to what to do with a mysterious drum that was illegally dumped off on Coffman Springs Road sometime between Sunday, June 13, and Monday, June 14.
According to LaFayette city manager Johnny Arnold, the city plans to prosecute the person(s) who dumped off the drum.
“Somebody set it off to the gate at the old landfill,” Arnold said.
Arnold said the city was advised not to remove the drum until the EPD tells the city of how to dispose of it. The EPD told the city to label the drum “Quarantine Per EPD.”
“We don’t know what it is,” Arnold said.
Arnold said the drum is not leaking and he is awaiting further instructions from the EPD.
