Net farm income is forecast to be $63 billion for 2010, according to USDA numbers that were recently released. This would represent the fifth-largest income year for farming. The number is up $6.7 billion from last year. but below the high of $80 billion in 2004 and 2008.
The USDA expects little change in expenses from last year, with the exception of a forecasted decrease in fertlizer and feed prices. The total projected decline in expenses will not reach the scale they did in 2009 when production expenses dropped $9.3 billion.
