Despite the closure of two employers that affected workers in Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia, there have been new jobs created over the past several weeks that should help with the unemployment problem in the region.

Last month Jarrett Trucking in Summerville closed it’s doors and Bluebird Mfg. in LaFayette announced that they would be closing in August.  The Georgia Department of Labor is working with those displaced workers to provide support and training for new jobs.

The good news is that Mt. Vernon Mills in Trion has added a new shift and Roper in LaFayette has added about 60 employees in recent weeks, bringing their total employment up to 1,340 people.  Nissin Brake in Rock Spring, Georgia has recently added employees bringing their total work force to 164 people.

Mt. Vernon, Roper and Nissin Brake have all reported increased orders in recent weeks.
