Residents in the Lindale area of Floyd County were evacuated yesterday afternoon after an acid leak at Bekaert Steelwire on Wednesday afternoon.  Plant spokesman say that the problem was caused by a pipe that buckled in the facility.  A failsafe system and self containment area caught the entire spill.   Plant officials say that the problem was a carbon copy of a simulated leak during an industrial emergency drill that was held last fall at the facility. Eight people from the area went to the hospital complaining of inhaled fumes from the acid, but emergency officials in Floyd County say that none were seriously injured.  No one from the plant was injured and the EPD was notified of the spill.
