Earlier this month State Representative Barbara Massey Reece along with Senator Jeff Mullis and Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters met with Lt. Governor Casey Cagle’s staff along with the director of the GBI Vernon Keenan to discuss the Summerville Crime Lab.

Reese stated that with adittional cuts in the budget proposed by Governor Sonny Perdue, it was not likely that a strategy to keep the Summerville Crime Lab open would be forthcoming.

Reece said that she had also had a conversation with House Speaker David Ralston about the issue.  She said that Speaker Ralston was well aware of the problems that closing the crime labs in Summerville, Moultrie and Columbus would cause for the criminal justice system in Georgia.

Governor Perdue is proposing to cut another $2.1 Million from GBI operations in the upcoming budget.
