Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters presented his 2011 Budget at a hearing yesterday held at the Chattooga County Civic Center at 11 AM.  There were not many there for the hearing.  The commissioner presented a budget that reflected about an 8% decrease over last year in revenue and spending.

The commissioner’s presentation lasted only minutes, while questions and comments lasted much longer.  A county resident asked the commissioner why he could just cut numbers across the board?  The resident then went on to question the commissioner about the need for "so many secretaries."

Winters told the resident that already Chattooga County’s staff in most of it’s offices is much smaller than other area counties and that cuts had been made.

Overall the commissioner presented his budget and took questions, many of which echoed his monthly commissioner’s meeting, and there were no surprises.
