Chattooga County Officials are still waiting on word to confirm the identity of the body that was found over a week ago in the Chattooga River near Lyerly.  Sheriff John Everett told AM 1180 earlier last week that the process could take some time because of backlogs in the GBI crimelabs.  Later in the week Chattooga County Investigator Larry Kellett told AM 1180 that there was no time-line as to when the GBI would make an identification of the body.

Law enforcement officials in Floyd County have confirmed that they are keeping an eye on the case and have been communicating with Chattooga County officials regarding the incident.  A black male that matches the description of the body that was found in Chattooga County has been missing from Floyd County for around 2 months.  Law enforcement officials will wait on the report from the GBI to confirm if the body found near Lyerly was that of Paty Spivey, a 5-foot-6 black male weighing between 130 and 140 pounds. He was last seen around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 in front of his brother’s house on Fairhaven Drive in Rome when he went out to smoke a cigarette.
