Sheriff John Everett told AM 1180 late Monday afternoon that no word had been received from the GBI Crime Lab regarding the body that was found in the Chattooga River on Friday.  Sheriff’s Department investigators sent the body to Atlanta to the crime lab for indentification.

Sheriff Everett told AM 1180 that right now it is "wait and see" with the GBI Crime labs experiencing back logs in cases.  Three crime labs in Georgia were closed including the one in Summerville.

Sheriff Everett said that he was told by the crime lab in Summerville that everything needed to be submitted by 4:30 PM on Monday because the facility was closing.  Law enforcement officials across the state have commented that the closing of the labs will cause even more of a backlog in an already slow system.

The body found last Friday was that of a black male, but little else is known at this time.  Everett said his department is treating the incident as a homicide investigation.
