Published reports indicate that Summerville Mayor Joe Norton does not expect the city council to take any action regarding the arrest of Summerville City Council Woman and Mayor Pro Tem Betty Bush over the weekend in Floyd County. Norton told the Rome News Tribune that he had served with Bush for 14 or 15 years and that the incident was a personal matter. Bush was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at Stanley Arasmith at his home on Big Texas Valley Road. Arasmith claims that Bush became hysterical after he refused her offer of marriage. Bush contends that she was checking up on Arasmith because he would not answer her calls and she was worried about him. She claims that Arasmith was the one who became violent and that he had dragged her across the floor during the argument that ensued. Bush had bruises and small cuts to her arm. Arasmith said that those injuries came from him taking the .38 caliber pistol away from Bush. Bush was released from jail Saturday after posting a $2,500 bond.
