A meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring included representatives from Chattooga County along with Walker, Catoosa and Dade counties – all part of the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority.  The meeting was held to discuss strategies for bringing support industries for the new Volkswagon Plant to Northwest Georgia.  Jeff Mullis, who serves as State Senator for the area as well as director of the authority, stated that a trip to Germany to visit with Volkswagon officials is not out of the question.

Democratic candidate for Chattooga County Commissioner, Jason Winters has made several references to the importance of the Volkswagon plant to the future economic development of Northwest Georgia and Chattooga County.  Winters told AM 1180 Chattooga Radio News in earlier interviews that Chattooga County should work to attract support industries to the county.  Winters also said that implementing free port for manufacturing is a strategic key to attracting industry to the county.
