The second annual Northwest Georgia Balloon Festival, set for May 15-17 at Tillotson Field on Ga. 48 in Menlo, will add the Energizer Bunny to the balloons list.

The bunny is 166 feet tall when inflated. His ears are 60 feet high and his blue flip-flops are size 98 EEEEE. He weighs 1,170 pounds and his drum is 45 feet in diameter and 20 feet wide. His powder-puff tail is 20 feet in diameter.

“The Energizer Bunny adds a different wow factor to the festival,” said John Cavin. “He is huge and very pink.

“The Bunny makes my balloon, the Purple People Eater, look small,” Cavin said. “Seeing him is something you will not forget. We’re excited to have him joining us.”

There are five different flights scheduled this year. If the weather cooperates, balloons will fly at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

A spokesman for the event said, “Remember, weather permitting doesn’t just mean rain and storms. Since balloons have limited means to steer, the winds aloft must be at their calmest. This occurs just after sunrise and just before dusk.”

Those at the festival can enjoy the carnival, tethered balloon rides, craft vendors, and great food as well as musical acts. There will be fun for everyone.
