The donation to Chattooga County of a fire-gutted property on Washington Street in Summerville by local attorney Bobby Lee Cook was announced by Commissioner Jason Winters a couple of weeks ago. Commissioner Winters has plans to turn the property into an open-air area that could be used for events and an outside eating area in downtown Summerville.
While the plans for the building are a work in progress, some of the ideas being tossed around include a stage and Wi-Fi service. Commissioner Winters said that the county will only be out around $4,000 – $6,000 for concrete work at the site.
Over the past two weeks prison crews from Hays State Prison have been working at the site doing prep work at the site. Commissioner Winters said that the building will be a multi-purpose facility and expressed his appreciation to Mr. Cook for the donation that will be enjoyed by many county residents.
