A bill sponsored by Rep. Roger Lane would allow the state to force prisoners to pay up to 40 dollars a day for "financially capable" prisoners to help pay room and board and other costs for prison stays. That also includes some costs for medical care. Critics say the "Jail and Prison Reimbursement Act" would hurt the FAMILIES of prisoners, who would probably end up bearing the financial burden.
Rep. Lane says taxpayers shouldn’t bear all of the expense.
