Each year, during the spring and summer months residents have problems with a pond on their property. These range from controlling weeds to fish kills.
To assist local pond owners with some of the issues concerning farm and sport fish ponds, the Walker County Extension Service is conducting a pond management program. The program will be on the basics of pond management and cover a variety of topics such as: aquatic plant identification, chemical weed control, biological and physical weed control options, liming and fertilizing.
The program is set for Monday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m., at the Walker County Ag Center. Dr. Gary Burtle, extension aquaculture specialist, will be the guest speaker. Pond owners who plan to attend are encouraged to bring water samples for free testing at the meeting and weed samples for identification.
The program is free of charge. For more information or to sign-up to attend the meeting, call the Walker County Extension office at 638-2548 by Friday, April 23.
Norman Edwards is coordinator of Walker County Extension Service.
