Pop’s Place received the bid for providing meals to the Chattooga County Jail as bids were opened in the Commissioners office earlier this week.  The jail meals were being served by Jot Em Down Cafe.  However the decision was made to serve only 2 meals a day at the county jail instead of 3.  Commissioner Winters told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that was the major factor in re-bidding the jail meals.

Pop’s Place submitted a bid to the county for $5.75 per inmate per day.  Other bids came from Jim’s Restaurant in Summerville and Etowah Family Restaurant in Armuchee.

State law allows counties to serve only two meals per day, so long as the calorie count per inmate is met.  Commissioner Winters said that the change to 2 meals per day will save the county $1.50 per inmate per day.
