A FORMER WALKER COUNTY COMMISSIONER HAS BEEN HONORED… WITH A PORTION OF U.S. 27 NAMED "THE ROY PARRISH JUNIOR PARKWAY".

IT’S THE PORTION OF 27 THAT BY-PASSES THE CHICKAMAUGA PARK… A ROAD THAT WAS FIRST PROPOSED BY PARRISH BACK IN THE 1990’S.

CURRENT COMMISSIONER BEBE HEISKELL SAID "ROY PARRISH DID NOT REST UNTIL HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE WESTERN ROUTE APPROVED… AND THE ROUTE WE ARE NOW USING WAS ESTABLISHED BEFORE HE RETIRED FROM OFFICE."  PARRISH WANTED A 4-LANE HIGHWAY THROUGH WALKER COUNTY, TO PROMOTE GROWTH AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.  THE BYPASS OPENED TO TRAFFIC IN 2000.

PARRISH SERVED AS SOLE COMMISSIONER FROM 1972 UNTIL 1996.  STATE SENATOR JEFF MULLIS AND REPRESENTATIVE JAY NEAL SPONSORED THE BILL TO NAME THE ROY PARRISH JUNIOR PARKWAY.
