A tree across the power lines caused a power outage in Summerville shortly before 10 AM Sunday Morning.
The tree came crashing down in the yard of a Summerville resident as she got ready to go to church Sunday morning. Worshipers were already having service at the Summerville Presbyterian Church when the lights went out. The tree came down across a main power line behind the Presbyterian Church on West Washington Street.
AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio was off the air for about 3 hours due to the downed tree. We spoke with Bob Kerr and Danny Fricks of Georgia Power, who said crews were called in from Dade County to assist with the problems caused by the downed tree. The power outage affected an area from Union Street back to the west side of Commerce Street and north of West Washington Street.
Crews from the City of Summerville came in to clean up the fallen tree and power was restored shortly before 12 noon on Sunday.
