Chattooga County Democrats will meet this evening for their annual Jefferson – Jackson Dinner at the Chattooga County Civic Center on Highway 48 in Summerville.  One of the featured speakers for this year’s event is Democratic Candidate for Governor, David Poythress. 

He has served terms as Secretary of State and Commissioner of Labor of the state of Georgia. Poythress also served as the Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard from 1999 until 2007, initially appointed by Governor Roy Barnes and subsequently reappointed by Governor Sonny Perdue.  He retired as a Lieutenant General. In 1998, Poythress made an unsuccessful bid for Governor of Georgia.  On August 26, 2008, Poythress announced his intention to campaign once again as a Democratic candidate for Governor of Georgia. Poythress and his wife Elizabeth have three grown children and eight grandchildren. 

Also, Jane Kidd the head of the Georgia Democratic Party will speak at the event.  The dinner gets underway at 7 PM.
