With each passing hour the odds get better for the prisoners that escaped on Monday from Hays State Prison in Pennville.

As of around midnight, the Georgia Department of Corrections has not caught either of the escapees.  Yesterday evening there was a flurry of activity including numerous law enforcement cars and helicopters in the area of Johnson Road, Farmersville Road and Mustang Drive.  Eyewittness accounts told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that law enforcement officials felt that at least one of the supects had been or was in the area.  However by 9:30 last night law enforcement was no longer concentrating their search in the area.

The DOC, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, the Federal Fugitive Squad and the Georgia State Patrol are keeping a 24 hour watch over the south end of the county.

The Department of Corrections has announced a News Conference at Hays State Prison for 10:30 this morning.  AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio will keep you informed.
