Apparently there was some confusion at the Chattooga County Courthouse as the election results began to roll in.  At one point the "tote" board on the steps of the courthouse on Washington Street did not match the numbers inside the courthouse.  Also, the numbers reported by the Secretary of State’s office were not matching up.   The problem seemed to have been resolved by the end of the night.

Judge Jon Payne, election superentindent for Chattooga County told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio yesterday evening that the county election workers could have started counting the absentee and early votes at 5 PM yesterday evening had the chairmen of both political parties in the county been notified 10 days ahead of time.  Payne indicated that before the next election, he would notify the two local parties so that counting could start earlier in the evening.

AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio will have a full report on the vote totals by precinct on www.chattoogainfo.com when they become available.
