Work is progressing on the new Veterans Memorial Park located at Dowdy Park in Summerville. AM 1180 Chattooga Radio News spoke with Veterans Park committeman Sewell Cash who stated that they are receiving names for the wall that will be the centerpiece of the new memorial.
According to Cash, the first 192 names received will go on the center of the memorial. Later names will be added and their will be room for expansion of the monument. Several AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio listeners had asked if there was a cut-off date for submitting names to the committee. Cash said that names will be accepted at any time, even after the monument is in place. Also, Cash said that the committee is considering moving the current "Doughboy" monument that is currently at the Memorial Home that honors all of the veterans from Chattooga County that served in WW One to the sight of the new Veterans Park so that it would be more visable to the public.
