Jurors heard testimony yesterday in the Carlton Vines Election Fraud Case that linked the names of voters with absentee ballots that were turned into Vines’ office according to witnesses. Today’s proceedings are expected to include the cross-examination of GBI Agent Dan Sims. Yesterday, Sims testified for the prosecution about the voter fraud investigation. Sims said agents interviewed approximately 100 county residents about their voting experience to determine, if any of them were disenfranchised. Vines’ attorney Bobby Lee Cook of Summerville characterized the investigation into the charges against his client by the GBI and the Secretary of State’s office as “the invasion of Chattooga County.” Vines is being charged with unlawful possession of ballots and conspiracy to commit election fraud. The prosecution is expected to wrap up their testimony today and the defense phase of the trial will get underway. Court resumes at 9:00 this morning at the Chattooga County Courthouse.
