The U.S. Geological Survey has determined that a small earthquake hit Chattooga County and Walker County earlier this month.
According to the government agency, the micro-quake registered 2.4 on the Richter Scale and had a depth of 1.1 miles. The quake occured on Friday, July 3rd. It was officially located 11 miles north of Summerville and 7 miles north – northwest of Trion and occured at 2:06 PM.
