Questions still remain about security at Hays State Prison in Pennville. According to Brian Owens, Assistant Commissioner of The Georgia Department of Corrections, budget cuts have not affected the security of the prison. Owens told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio on Friday that he was confident that Hays Prison was being run in a secure fashion.
AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio has spoke with several current and former employees at Hays Prison that disagree with the Department of Corrections assesment. One of the questions concerns the number of perimeter patrol cars that patrol the outside perimeter of the prison. Also questions abound about the five towers at the prison and the number of floor officers present.
Current and former employees of the prison continue to express concern about the security at the prison.
