THE CHATTOOGA AND CHICKAMAUGA RAILWAY, HEADQUARTERED IN LAFAYETTE, WILL BEGIN REPAIR WORK ON FLOOD-DAMAGED TRACK THIS WEEK.  WHILE THE TRACK IS OWNED BY THE STATE OF GEORGIA… THE RAILROAD LEASES THE TRACK AND OPERATES FREIGHT SERVICE FROM CHATTANOOGA TO SUMMERVILLE.  THE C AND C HOPES TO RECEIVE A REIMBURSEMENT OF ITS REPAIR COSTS THROUGH A GRANT FROM FEMA… THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY… BUT THAT COULD TAKE SOME TIME.  RIGHT NOW, THE RAIL-LINE IS CLOSED SOUTH OF CHICKAMAUGA… WITH LOCOMOTIVES STRANDED IN LAFAYETTE… AND TANK CARS STRANDED NEAR MT. VERNON IN TRION.  IN ALL ABOUT 8,800 FEET OF RAIL LINE NEEDS REPAIR.
