The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay have brought some much needed relief to Northwest Georgia this week.  For the second month in a row, Northwest Georgia has seen an above average monthly rain fall total.  In July the official rain fall total at Richard B. Russell Airport was 4.8 inches which was about 2/10ths of an inch above the monthly rain fall average.  With the precipitation that we have received over the past couple of days the August rain fall total is now 5.74 inches which is almost 2 inches above the monthly average of 3.86 inches.  These totals are from the weather reporting station at the Rome Airport.  Some areas have seen even more rain in the past 36-48 hours.  Reports of local rain fall amounts of over 5 inches, just in the past 36 hours in some areas mean that we are seeing some drought relief.
