The rain will continue today over Northwest Georgia and there is a chance that the rain showers could end with some snow showers late this afternoon. The Weather Channel Meterologist John Askins said that the possibility exists for some snow fall in Chattooga County – but no accumulation is expected. However, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for neighboring Mentone, Alabama and the higher elevations of DeKalb County, Alabama.
Weather Forecast for Summerville from The Weather Channel:
Rain early… then remaining cloudy with showers in the afternoon. High 47F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph. Rainfall around a half an inch.
Weather Forecast for Mentone, AL. from The Weather Channel:
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING…
* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED… LIGHT RAIN FALLING ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST ALABAMA… ALONG WITH FRANKLIN COUNTY TENNESSEE… EARLY THIS MORNING WILL TRANSITION TO A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW LATER THIS MORNING. A CHANGE OVER TO MAINLY ALL SNOW IS THEN EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON. ANY RAIN OR SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF AFTER 6 PM AS THE PRECIPITATION MOVES EASTWARD.
* ACCUMULATIONS… AROUND ONE TO TWO INCHES… MAINLY ON GRASSY AND ELEVATED SURFACES.
* OTHER HAZARDS… TEMPERATURES WILL QUICKLY FALL BELOW FREEZING AFTER SUNSET. THIS COULD LEAD TO BLACK ICE ON AREA ROADWAYS LATER TONIGHT.
* IMPACTS… DUE TO RELATIVELY WARM TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING… ANY DEVELOPING SNOW WILL INITIALLY MELT. HOWEVER… PERSISTENT LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW CONTINUING INTO THE AFTERNOON PERIOD MAY RESULT IN SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS… MAINLY ON ELEVATED AND SECONDARY ROADS.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES… AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
