The Chattooga County Water District announces an extension of the Gore-Subligna Water Project Sign-Up. Currently any resident whom either did not sign up on the initial application or has moved into the area would pay a $700.00 hook-up fee plus a $50.00 deposit and agree to a 12 month contract for service. Residents in the Gore-Subligna area will be able to sign up for a reduced rate of $250.00 plus a $50.00 deposit and agree to a 12 month contract between now and July1. The base water bill for the Gore Subligna Water Customers will be $26.70 for the first 2,000 gallons used monthly. $33.90 for the first 3,000 gallons used monthly. $41.70 for the first 4,000 gallons used monthly. $49.50 for the first 5,000 gallons used monthly. Then $7.80 for each additional 1,000 gallons used monthly. Residents in the Gore-Subligna area who wish to purchase a meter but not connect it to their home will be able to so for a base monthly bill of $26.70. After the 12 month contract the service can then be terminated and the meter can be accessed at a later date at no charge. Residents who wish to purchase a meter and use water service at the time of connection will have a bill based on their monthly usage. The 12 month contract must be honored or there will be a connection fee of $750.00 after July1 regardless of prior sign up commitment. “Basically this allows for residents of the Gore and Subligna area that may have not signed up for $65.00 initial fee or have moved into the area to sign up and gain access to water for a reduced fee. I would like to encourage everyone whom agreed to an initial contract agreement of $65.00 to honor their 12 month agreement. The total cost for someone who had the initial sign up of $65.00 and agrees to the 12 month contract but does not want to use the meter yet would be $385.40 and would guarantee access to the meter for future use if your well were to go bad or go dry. I have had a lot of people in that area that want to get a meter but do not want to pay a monthly bill of $49.50. This option would be cheaper than waiting for your well to go bad and then having to pay a $750.00 connection fee.” Commissioner Jason Winters stated. Commissioner Winters is planning to have a public meeting in the Gore area and the Subligna area before the end of the month to help answer any questions on sign-up and monthly fees that any area residents have. Currently the water project is ahead of schedule and as soon as the tank site is finished on Taylor’s Ridge the lines that are already installed will be phased in for residents to access. The entire project will not have to be completed in order to pressurize the lines. “We want to be able to phase in water as the areas are completed and to help the residents with the most need to gain access to water the quickest.” Commissioner Winters stated. Any questions concerning the water project can be answered through either the Commissioner’s Office at 706-857-0700 or the Chattooga County Water District at 706-734-2827. The Commissioner’s Office can also be reached by e-mail at chattcom@windstream.net. The Water User’s Agreement can be e-mailed to the resident and then mailed back in to the Water District.
