Representative Barbara Massey Reece (D-Menlo) spoke with AM 1180 yesterday evening about events at the state capitol in Atlanta. Reece said that she is hopeful that Senator Jeff Mullis will be able to bring forth an alternative transportation plan this session that would be more favorable to small rural counties in Georgia.
Governor Sonny Perdue has legislation pending that would force small rural counties into partnerships for transportation funds with larger counties. Many legislators say that the governor’s plan could force smaller areas to pay for transportation projects that would benefit more populated counties. Reece said that she would support a bill that was like the transportation bill that Senator Mullis put forth in the last legislative session.
Reece said that the House is currently reviewing legislation that has been sent over from the State Senate.
