Sixteen Basic Law Enforcement recruits will graduate from Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. The ceremony will be held in the Raymond F. King Auditorium at GNTC’s Gordon County Campus at 1 p.m.

The guest speaker at the ceremony will be Barbara Massey Reece, state representative for Chattooga and Floyd Counties. Representative Reece is a graduate of Menlo High School, the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, and Berry College with a master’s degree in Education. She was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1998 where she represents the 11th District. Prior to election, she was employed by the Extension Service as a home economist in Walker County, a classroom teacher for 30 years in Chattooga and Gwinnett Counties, and a business partner in B&B Enterprises, a catering service.

During this time, Representative Reece was active in numerous civic and professional groups. She was twice named Teacher of the Year. She was nominated by students and recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She received the Community Service Award from Modern Woodmen of America for her work with children and the elderly. This is just a few of the many organizations Representative Reece has served in her community.

The ceremony will honor a graduate with an award for academic distinction and the “Top Gun” award for excellence in marksmanship.
