With all of the local school board races in Chattooga County being decided on the Democratic ballot on Tuesday, there were fewer voters voting in the Republican Primary.  Fewer than 600 votes were cast in the Republican Primary, but overwhelmingly local Republicans voted for incumbent State Senator Jeff Mullis of Chickamauga to retain his seat under the Gold Dome in Atlanta.

Mullis was challenged by Jim Pope of Walker County and Jeremy Jones, a Ringgold businessman.  Mullis carried Chattooga County with around 60% of the vote.  District – wide Mullis carried almost 70% of the vote.  The final vote totals in the state senate race for the 53rd District in Chattooga County were:

In the Governor’s race, Karen Handle lead the way in Chattooga County in the Republican Race for Governor.  Handle will be facing off with former U.S. Congressman Nathan Deal for the Republican nomination for governor in a run-off election scheduled for August 10th.
