The City of Summerville Council will hold a Budget Work Session meeting beginning at 5 pm this afternoon, Monday, April 4, 2011. The meeting will be held in City of Summerville City Hall Council Chambers.
The Summerville City Council is likely to either re-institute property taxes or make city residents pay a $7.50 fire protection fee.
Those extra funds will help to offset the city’s $875,410 deficit in its 2011-12 proposed budget.
Summerville’s 2,640 water customers living outside the city already pay the $7.50 monthly fee. City residents do not (1,379 customers).
The fee would generate $139,500 annually, City Manager Russell Thompson told the council Thursday.
City Manager Russell Thompson said that citizens should show up for the meeting to give their input on what the city should do about the budget deficit.
