The Trion Bulldogs didn’t win the game, but they won plenty of respect Friday night.

Considered by most to be substantial underdogs, the Bulldogs gave No. 3-ranked Lincoln County a battle Friday night before eventually suffering a 14-0 loss in the first round of the Class A high school football playoffs.

The Red Devils (10-1) had 200 total yards to Trion’s 192, but Trion had 11 first downs to the opponents’ 7.

Lincoln County jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead on a 65-yard pass from Garrett Mohr to Rusty Scott. The Bulldogs missed a field goal just before the half to go into the intermission trailing by a touchdown.

The Red Devils scored again in the third quarter on a 2-yard run by Craig Jones to account for the final score.

Trion was in the red zone two more times but couldn’t convert on fourth down.

Hayden Tucker led the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with 65 yards on 31 carries, followed by Ryan Wilson with 56 yards on 15 carries. Trion’s Cody Simpson had two catches for 46 yards.

The Bulldogs finished 6-5. Lincoln County, 10-1, hosts Eagles Landing Christmas Academy at home next week.
