The Capital Murder trial of Barbara Ann Roberts in State Circuit Court in Cherokee County, Alabama began this week.

Barbara Ann Roberts and Robert John Scheiss III of Conyers, Georgia were both indicted on charges of murder in the death of 44 year old Darlene Roberts.

Darlene Robert’s body was found on April 6th 2006, lying alongside a pond near her home on County Road 941 in the northeastern portion of Cherokee County, close to the Alabama/Georgia line.

She had reportedly died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

At the time of her death she was employed as a Personnel Manager at Inland Container in Rome, Georgia and married to Vernon Roberts, the ex-husband of Barbara Ann Roberts.

Both Barbara Ann Roberts and Robert John Scheiss III were arrested by GBI Agents, less than two weeks later at an Atlanta airport, and charged with murder in that case.

Both were later released on a bond of one million dollars each.

Sheiss’ trial is expected to be held sometime this fall.

In a Capital Murder trial, if convicted, the defendant(s) will face either the Death Penalty or Life in Prison Without the Possibility of Parole.
