A grandmother of two accepted a gift from her husband that carried a sweet Georgia Lottery prize. Vanessa Singleton, a resident of Rome, won a $50,000 top prize playing the instant game Jumbo Bucks Classic, according a lottery press release.

“My husband had gone to the store, and he decided to get a ticket for me,” recalled the 49-year-old Singleton. “He told me, ‘This will be a winner for my baby.’ ”

She scratched the ticket at home.

“We were totally shocked,” she said. “We couldn’t believe it.”

In addition to her two grandchildren, Singleton has two adult children. She intends to pay off bills and help her closest family members.

“My first priority is home,” she shared. “I’m really excited.”

Bottle & Basket, 2006 Redmond Circle N.W. in Rome, sold the winning ticket.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $11.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
