Police arrested a man on Monday afternoon who they said was involved in a shooting on Sunday on Martha Berry Boulevard.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Marcus Cody Johnson, 39, of 20 Tumlin Drive, Apt. 3, was arrested by Floyd County Sheriff’s deputies around 2:30 p.m. He was charged with felony aggravated assault, felony aggravated assault with a vehicle, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and misdemeanor discharging a gun near a public street.
Police said early on Sunday Johnson apparently got into a dispute with an ex-girlfriend at the Woodberry Inn & Suites on Martha Berry Boulevard. Rome police warrants stated Johnson fired seven rounds from a Taurus .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol at the woman’s car as she drove off, hitting her vehicle at least six times “in an attempt to murder her.” Police said he then took his blue Oldsmobile Cutlass and struck her Honda Civic “in an attempt to injure the victim.”
His car apparently wrecked and Johnson fled on foot. Officers determined his location on Monday, and deputies took him into custody without incident.
Johnson remains in jail without bail.
