A Rome man refused treatment at the scene of a wreck Friday morning after he struck a power pole. According to Rome Police:
Fifty one year old Earnest Daniel was driving northbound on North Second Avenue around 11:20 a.m. when he began choking on a Bojangles biscuit. Daniel said he blacked out momentarily and when he came to, found himself gripping the steering wheel instead and pushing the accelerator instead of the break.
Daniel’s late model dark gray Dodge Durango was damaged on the front end after he struck the pole, and complained of pain from the air bags deploying and his seat belt tightening on his chest. He said he was thankful to have had his seat belt on regardless.
Residents in the area reported having power and the pole would not have to be replaced.
Police said no charges would be filed against Daniel.
