Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes is being rumored to be a candidate for Georgia Governor again in 2010. Currently the only announced Democratic candidate is former Labor Commissioner David Poythress. At least three Republicans including Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Karen Handle have announced their intentions to seek the governor’s position. At a meeting in Floyd County, CNN Political commentator Bill Crane told the Floyd County Rotary Club that Barnes is in contention for the Democratic nomination for governor. Barnes was defeated by current Governor Sonny Perdue in 2002. Crane said that should Barnes enter the race it could mean a significant amount of money coming into the race on the Democratic side.
