A review Web site currently ranks a DeKalb County tourist hot spot as the best thing to do in Alabama.
Sequoyah Caverns and Ellis Homestead is at the top of 226 things to do in Alabama on tripadvisor.com. Owner Roy Jones said it’s an honor to be recognized by visitors.
“It’s not really by Trip Advisor; it’s by the people who go on Trip Advisor,” Jones said. “The cool thing about it is that it’s not us paying to say how good we are. It’s the people who say we are a good place to visit.”
The site is used by people who have been on a trip and want to either brag on or criticize about a particular destination, such as a hotel, restaurant or attraction. Sequoyah Caverns has eight favorable reviews with one coming from a person as far away as Ontario, Canada.
“One of the things that I tell our people here is that we are in a new age,” Jones said. “One person can tell millions about you, and it can be good or bad. I think things like Trip Advisor and other sites will help us get the word out how nice it is here. We have people who come here from all over the world.”
For Jones, the ranking on tripadvisor.com is a good way to get the word out about the Valley Head attraction that is family owned and operated.
“In some ways, it’s good to be the best kept secret, but in our case it’s not,” Jones said.
