The slump in the housing industry and the recession have forced Shaw Industries to shut down another plant in the area.  Shaw Industries has already closed several plants in Northwest Georgia and with the announcement yesterday that Shaw would be closing it’s plant in Calhoun, another 400 Northwest Georgians will be out of a job.

Northwest Georgia has beene especially hard hit over the past several months because much of the industry in the area has to do with carpet, flooring and the housing industry.  The Dalton area currently has the highest unemployment rate in the state.
