The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate a shooting reported on Cherokee County Road 103 in the Cloudland Communty last week.  The area is just below the Cloudland Fire Hall #2 in Chattooga County.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting shots being fired. Deputies arrived at the scene of the disturbance and discovered one person with an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators from the Sheriff`s Office were notified to respond to the residence.

The incident apparently escalated from an argument between a man and his daughter’s boy-friend. Billy Ray White was transported by ambulance to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga for treatment of his wounds; Investigators spoke with his family and hospital personnel and were told White was going to be admitted for treatment, Shaver said.

The other person involved in the incident has been identified as James. R. Flairty of a County Road 103 address, Shaver said.

Investigators remained on the scene of the incident for approximately five hours collecting evidence and obtaining statements from witnesses. At this time no one has been charged and the incident is currently under investigation, said Shaver.

Mentone and Valley Head Police Departments assisted along with Dekalb Ambulance Service and area first responders.
