What started over 130 years ago as a small Baptist College for women has now become a full fledged University.  Shorter College unveiled the new sign for "Shorter University" on Tuesday afternoon. 

School president Harold Newman welcomed faculty, staff, students, elected officals and members of the media to the celebration. Newman said, `We have grown from the days of a woman`s school to being a world-wide University. We are proud of our accomplishments and proud to be the only University in Rome`.

Joining Newman was Dr. Nelson Price, Chairman of Shorter University`s Board of Trustees, Dr. Robert White, Executive Director for the Georgia Baptist Convention.

Local officals Chair of the Floyd County Commissioners Eddie Lumsden and Rome City Commission Mayor Wright Bagby presented the school with a joint prolcamation.
