The Summerville News is reporting today that Smith Ironworks in Lyerly is suing an Alabama company called Steel-Plus of Ft. Payne.  The company is comprised of former employees of Smith Iron Works and company officials in Lyerly say that the Ft. Payne firm has stolen "trade secrets."  Jim Hicks of Ft. Payne along with Brad Jacoway of Centre and Jeff Haymon of Rainsville are all named in the law-suit.

The trio told the owner of Smith Ironworks, Darrel Smith, that they were quitting in January of 2010 and according to Smith have attempted to entice other employees to join their new Alabama enterprise.  The lawsuit alleges violations of the RICO act and asks for a jury trial and to be awarded damages.  The Lyerly company is being represented by Arch Farrar and Chris Corbin, attorneys in Summerville.
